PCFF: Local Flavor Film Series
A total of 36 feature and short films were selected from 70 submissions for this year’s Local Flavor series at the 8th Annual Plaza Classic Film Festival, August 5-16, 2015. Two of the features will be shown in the Philanthropy. Most of the programs will be in the El Paso Community Foundation’s Foundation Room, 333 N. Oregon.The Plaza Classic Film Festival is one of the Southwest’s most renowned festivals of independent cinema. The Local Flavor film series is the area’s largest showcase for local and locally connected filmmakers and stories.The series is generously supported by the Texas Film Commission

Lou Diamond Phillips will be Lifetime Achievement Award honoree, a new generation of stellar filmmakers are expected to show up for a glittering opening night and film aficionados will be treated to an impressive roster of films, workshops and special events at the festival Wednesday through Sunday. Most events are at Cineport 10 at the Mesilla Valley Mall, with workshops at the Rio Grande Theatre and Black Box Theatre and gala events at Hotel Encanto, Meson de Mesilla and St. Clair Winery and Bistro.

Roswell native David Melendez, a student at New Mexico State University in the CMI program studying Film, is the winner of the 2013 White Sands International Film Festival Student Promo Film Contest. Also, Melendez recently directed another film that he wrote and produced. His film, MOMENTS OF PAST AND PRESENT has been selected to the 2013 White Sands International Film Festival.
